Causes, symptoms and treatments for ADHD
ADD or ADHD, also known as ‘Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder’ impacts the executive functions that are required to plan, assess and execute life. ADHD is a very common behavioral disorder that starts during childhood. This is known to be a neurodevelopment problem that is chronic in nature and mostly affects children below 15 years of age. They show signs of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. ADHD often runs in families and thus it can be a genetic disorder.
Types of ADD or ADHD
- Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
The person fidgets and talks a lot as he would find it hard to keep still. A child would continuously keep running, jumping or climbing. They would be impulsive and restless, grabbing things and speaking at inappropriate times. A person with this type of ADHD would have a lot of injuries than others. They would also find it hard to listen to directions. - Predominantly Inattentive Type
The person would find it difficult to finish or organize the task. They would also find it difficult to follow the conversations or instructions. - Combined Type
Here the person would have both Inattentive and Hyperactive-Impulsive type of ADHD.
Symptoms or general signs of ADD or ADHD in children
- The child is inattentive
- The child would find it hard to wait for his turn, standing in the queue or conversations
- The child is overactive, fidgety and restless
- The child is chattering constantly
- The child continuously interrupts with people
- The child cannot concentrate on a specific task for long
Causes of ADD or ADHD
The Scientists are still not very sure about the causes of ADHD. Like many other illnesses, ADHD results from a combination of factors. The scientists are studying about the nutrition, brain injuries and social environment that would contribute to ADHD.

Children who undergo from brain injuries may show some behaviors related to ADHD. However, there is less percentage of kids suffering from traumatic brain injury. - Genes
