Get Asthma tested before it is too late

Asthma can ruin a person’s life and though it cannot be cured completely, it can be controlled with the help of certain remedies and medications. However, before you start with any of the controllers, you need to undergo a few asthma tests. Tests are crucial as each asthma case is different and therefore its treatment will vary too. Asthma tests allow your doctor to diagnose asthma efficiently and provide you with the appropriate medications.

Some key asthma tests are:

  • Pulmonary or lung function test
This test basically helps measure the function of the lungs. Spirometry and methacholine challenge tests are two commonly performed tests to assess the function of the lungs.
Spirometry(breathing test) is used to measure the amount and how fast you can blow air out of the lungs. This test will help the doctor understand the amount of airway obstruction present. If however, spirometry is not sufficient to diagnose asthma then your doctor may prescribe the methacholine challenge test.
  • Blood Test
This test helps give a better understanding of your overall health. The blood test also enables the doctor to measure the levels of immunoglobulin E(IgE). It is an antibody that is released into the body during an allergic reaction. However, this protein is larger quantities of people suffering from allergies.
  • Chest X-Ray
Although this is not one of the ideal severe asthma tests, chest X-Ray is used to make sure that no other infection or condition is causing asthma symptoms.
Your doctor knows what is best for you and will prescribe you asthma tests depending on your condition.
