Here’s Why the Toyota Mirai is an Ideal Futuristic Car

The Toyota Mirai is undoubtedly one of the most futuristic cars today. With the launch of this sedan, the Japanese carmaker ushered in a new age of hydrogen-powered zero-emission vehicles that are accessible and easy to drive. Even with its advanced powertrain and eco-friendly fuelling, the Mirai is as safe and practical as any conventional family car. Read on to explore the many salient features of the Toyota Mirai that distinguishes it from competitors.

Here’s Why the Toyota Mirai is an Ideal Futuristic Car

Zero Emissions
One of the biggest perks of getting the Toyota Mirai is it reduces your carbon footprint. The car generates power by combining its hydrogen fuel with oxygen from the air in its Fuel Cell Stack. A chemical reaction produces electricity; the only byproduct is water. To sweeten this deal further, Toyota offers complimentary fuel for up to six years or $15,000 (whichever comes first). Unlike EVs, refueling a hydrogen-fuelled car is quick and takes only 3-5 minutes, just like conventional fuel.

Performance and fuel economy
Going sustainable does not impact the Mirai’s performance, as its electric motor produces 182 horsepower via a one-speed direct-drive transmission. The car picks pace quickly and offers a composed and refined drive with its rear-wheel drive chassis. According to the EPA, the Toyota Mirai earned a 67 MPGe for city and highway driving. Toyota’s numbers suggest that the Mirai is good for 402 miles per hydrogen fill-up.

Design
The Toyota Mirai is futuristic not just with its technology but also with its construction. It ditches the old idea of the SUV with its flowing lines and upscale appearance. The cabin has copper-colored trim pieces highlighting curvy elements on the dash and door panels. The dashboard is mainly made up of all-digital elements and a large infotainment screen. Toyota offers two variants of the Mirai – the standard XLE (starting at $50,000) and the Limited (starting at $67,095). The Limited trim has a moonroof, heated-and-ventilated front and rear seats, three-zone automatic climate control, and more attributes.

Infotainment
The Mirai is fitted with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system like other high-end Toyota models. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 14-speaker JBL audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an in-dash navigation system.

Safety
The Mirai offers a standard suite of driver assistance features, including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning alongside lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a bird’s eye view camera, and a digital rearview mirror with Homelink®, Qi-wireless charging with four USB ports, and others. The Limited trim comes equipped with the Toyota Teammate™, which includes advanced driver assistance technologies like Advanced Park and Advanced Drive. That’s not all, as the Mirai has eight airbags, and a 1-year trial of Safety Connect® provides 24/7 emergency assistance via Toyota’s call center. The car also has a Star Safety System™, a comprehensive suite of six advanced safety features, including Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, ALB system, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop Technology®.

Warranty
Toyota offers a comprehensive warranty package with the Mirai, as with all its other vehicles. The Limited Warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles, and the Powertrain Warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles. Furthermore, complimentary scheduled maintenance covers three years or 36,000 miles, with the added incentive of three years (or $15,000) of free fuel.

The name Mirai translates to ‘future’ in Japanese. Paying justice to the terminology, Toyota is paving the way for a cleaner future with its Mirai lineup. From its eco-friendly and sustainable engine to its next-gen interiors and build, the Toyota Mirai has become an industry leader in the automotive space. This high-performing, zero-emission vehicle can be yours for around $49,500. One should note that the prices are subject to change.
