Preparing for the first day of preschool
Sending a child to preschool is a monumental day in every parent’s life. It is the first time the parents trust those outside to take care of their child. As a parent, after you have made all the effort and found the right preschool, you will have to prepare for the first day of preschool. By preparing for the first day, you and your child will be more confident and comfortable.
Here are some general tips that will be useful to you on the first day of your child’s preschool.
- Trust that you have chosen the right setting for your child and proceed further
- Be open to communicating with the teachers at the preschool as building a good relationship with them is important. They can help you deal with the anxieties you and your child are going to go through on the first day. They are trained professionals who know how to handle the situation
- Children will react to the situation in many ways. Try and get your child ready for the first day by talking more about it to him or her. This can get them excited about it too. Talk to them about all the new friends, fun, games, and the playground
- Take pictures of the child care center and show them to your child. You can get them familiar with the place too
- Sending your child to a childcare and preschool facility can help start a family routine. Get them accustomed to it a week before the date
- Get prepared for the preschool in advance. Label all the things your child will be carrying so that it remains safe. This includes the clothes, bottles, food boxes, and toys. Make sure everything you will be sending is permitted in the preschool in advance
- Start preparing for the first day well in advance so that you don’t end up rushing things. There must be enough time to let your child get used to the idea of going to preschool by him or her
Here is how you can prepare your child for his or her first day of preschool.
- Talking about the first day yourself is a start. Talk about all the other kids in the neighborhood who are already enrolled there. Teaching the child the name of the place can be a big help
- The preparation for the first day will differ depending on the age of the child. The reaction will also differ based on the age group. Older children might understand more
- More importantly, you need to seem confident and emotionally in check. You child will seem confused if you don’t seem happy about it. Explain to them about how their day will go about and reassure them that you will be there to pick them up
Your child will seem hesitant since it is the first time they are headed out on their own. This is perfectly normal. Be supportive and encourage them to talk to you. You can help them get used to child care by understanding their emotions better.
