Why is accreditation important while choosing an online school

Online education is gaining popularity across the globe. The number of people applying for jobs with an online degree is rapidly increasing, and the acceptance of online degrees by employers and corporations is becoming more common with time. Recruiters don’t focus on traditional or online classes as much as they focus on the major and GPA of the candidate. While people are looking for online schools and affordable online schools, it is important that they look for online schools that are accredited.

Why is accreditation important while choosing an online school

Online schools receive independent reviews of education programs from accreditation. The purpose of the reviews of affordable online schools is to determine if the education program offered by the institute has good content and quality. Along with affordability of the online school, it is important that accreditation is given equal weightage as it helps one to have a degree that is widely accepted by professional associations, employers, and other college and universities.

There are essentially two types of accreditation namely, regional accreditation and national accreditation. Most universities in the country are regionally accredited. Harvard University, Ohio University, and Stanford University are regionally accredited. This makes regional accreditation the most common type of accreditation. There are six major regional accreditation boards that provide accreditation to most universities. These boards are MSA are namely Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools, Northwestern Commission on Colleges & Universities ( NASC ), North Central Association of Schools & Colleges (NCA ), New England Association of Colleges & Schools (NEASC), Southwestern Association of Colleges & Schools (SACS), and Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC).

The second most popular type of accreditation is the national accreditation. There are three most common national accreditation agencies that are Distance Education & Training Council (DETC), Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges & Schools (ACICS), and Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).

While people are on their expedition to find the best online school that is also affordable, making sure the online school they choose is also accredited is imperative. It is the U.S. Department of Education that recognizes agencies as accreditors. All agencies that give accreditation to all kinds of schools, colleges, and universities are recognized as accreditors by the U.S. Department of Education. To avoid being fooled by a fake accreditation, it is important that background of the accreditor is checked properly.
